RowfApr 23, 10:10 AMI was reading through some archives on mac security and came across an article detailing a trojan hidden in an mp3 file that surfaced 2004 and could affect mac operating systems.

This got me wondering about the way such threats can be packaged across all platforms and then dragged this question from somewhere out of my paranoid subconscious:

If an mp3 contained any kind of malware (trojan/virus, thinking cross platform here) and it could play music what would happen if it was burned as an audio cd and then ripped back to mp3 file?
Would the malware remain intact and just take up residence in the newly ripped file or would it be destroyed?
What if it were to be burned as an audio cd then ripped back into a different file format, flac, aac etc.
Would the malware survive that?
Converted from mp3 to a different file format, how about that?
In fact, would it be possible to create an audio cd from an infected file without the burning software crashing before it was done?

Any ideas, theories or :eek: experiences?

This isn't a specific mac question, more of a general cross platform just kind of wonderin' if anyone else has thought of it question.

I haven't got an infected mp3 file to try else I'd give it a go on my old windows pc to see what happens.

The price seems a little too low for a new (I assume never opened) MBP. Do you think some parts were switched out for cheaper replacements? He does have 99% positive reviews, and he's sold MBP before.

EDIT: I took a second look and realized that I was looking at a non high res. model. I guess the price seems pretty decent. What do you guys think?

Same for me! MPlayerX lags about every ten seconds and "skips" about 2 seconds.. quite annoying (even with non-HD movies)! Quicktime is choppy as well.
VLC does the best job, there are almost no lags using g-draft WiFi.

usclaneyjMay 3, 03:24 PMI think I know the problem you are referring to. Unfortunately, I do not have a solution.

In my situation, it's not particularly "wacky" fonts. For instance. If I am in the text palette and I type the name of the font "DIN" it skips DIN and DIN Schrift and goes straight to Dingbat. If I try to use the up arrow to navigate up my list to where DIN is, I get the "donk" sound.

If you ever find a reason or a fix, please do report back. I would appreciate it.

dpilatMay 6, 05:04 PMI have a 13" black macbook that was bought in 2007. It has pretty standard hardware, such as 1GB of ram, 160GB HD, etc. However, it has been having problems for about a year now. The first problem it has relates to the computer lagging/skipping. The computer always lags (using a mouse or trackpad). It lags/skips when i'm browsing the internet, playing itunes (the songs actually skip and get choppy), playing a dvd using the DVD player app, and when I watch any type of video on the internet (youtube videos, flash videos; the audio gets choppy and fuzzy). The second issue I have been having is random shutdowns. Sometimes, I will be typing a report or browsing the internet and I will get an error message telling me that I have to restart the computer by holding down the power button. This has happened about 4 times. I think these issues might relate to a bad logic board, but I am not sure. Any ideas? How much does it cost to fix these issues? Thanks

However I'm not a big fan of the blue color, though the finish is really nice. Which stores would likely let me exchange this blue iPod Shuffle for a silver iPod Shuffle without a receipt? Its really not a big deal for a store to exchange colors since they all have the exact same value. I wanted to try Best Buy, but I don't think they would do the exchange due to their fairly strict item scans. Ideas?

Not really… as I understand it, the Pogo measures surface area in contact with the screen to infer pen pressure, for a start, which is pretty inaccurate. The hypothetical Apple one would have a pressure sensor to register pen pressure accurately (and in a way, presumably, one could calibrate). Additionally, the Apple one proposes to register rotation and tilt, which puts it in a different class entirely for drawing purposes.

lgtwApr 12, 10:57 PMRecently, my mom came in while cleaning around my room, you know, just tiding up a bit. She unplugged my WD My Book Studio LX on accident, and quickly plugged it back in. Before, it was hitting speeds that it should normally hit, 800 megabits a second (FireWire 800). I did a verify of the disk, and tried to repair it, but got that the disk COULD NOT be unmounted. The disk is now trailing along at speeds of about 17 GB/10 minutes, which is only about 30 megabytes a second, when normally is should be around 100 megabytes (800 megabits) a second. I even restarted the computer, but haven't tried resetting the SMU yet, would that help?

If you have had any past experiences that you have resolved, PLEASE, tell me below, and I'd gladly appreciate it! (:

I guess the real question is whether I really need the power of the 15 inch if i will only be doing rough cuts while at school. Maybe the 13in will suffice? Only disadvantage is lack of graphics card for motion and color. I really do like the portability of the 13. I can always buy an iMac later on when I make some more cash off video work.

It was as you said jiminaus I was creating my timer using scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:target:selector:userInfo:repeats: on my main thread. But I solved it by just creating another thread and creating the timer from there, but I'm going to checkout your solution cause it might be more appropriate.


Just tested it and adding it to the common mode works perfectly, thanks again.

Uninstall themes and seen if you regain your sounds...
Do a restore to regain your sounds if all else fails...

I went into Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings and that did the job.
I now have audio on the games, clicking keyboard and alerts sound.
