My employer is saying there is no way to extend H1B after crossing the last date. You have to work on EAD.

You need to file a new I-9 with EAD as condition of employment ASAP. Otherwise you are working without authorization as your H1B has expired. As far as status is concerned, you are good as you are on AOS, but file the new I-9 (with HR dept. of your employer) quickly to avoid possible complications in your GC process.

However, while filling out the forms to set up an appointment for the renewal interview, I remembered that I had a misdemeanor conviction (I pled guilty) for bad checks (this was a very long time ago, about 6 years - it was a bad time, I made some mistakes). When I say 'yes', on the DS-156 form, in response to the question regarding criminal convictions, how likely is it that I will have my visa renewed? Isn't is usually the case that consular officers are looking for any reason to deny visas/renewals?

It seems like my only option is to postpone/cancel my trip, if I want to be able to come back to complete my studies.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

..I was planning to pay from here using my credit card...but guess that might not work( see text in italics below from the airline website) , My parent have an icici debit card but that one has a limit from icici for 50,000 Rs or 75,000 Rs or so, the tickets are totally 1 lakh + so trying to figure out what might be the options....



Have the physical credit card originally used for the purchase presented by the cardholder for verification at check-in, OR on collecting the tickets, OR at the nearest Cathay Pacific Ticketing Office prior to the flight departure. The cardholder does not need to book and travel. If a transaction is successfully made with "Verified by Visa", or "MasterCard� SecureCode�", the cardholder will not be required to present the physical card used for verification.

I understand that if the cardholder fails to present the physical card originally used for booking transaction, the carrier reserves the right to -
Deny boarding, or
Collect a guarantee payment (in cash or from a new credit card).

I have booked tickets for my parents from here on delta website. I had no issues. The price showed in Indian Rupees as it assumed i was booking from India. I called customer service, they guided me to change the country to USA which showed the price in US dollars. I then paid it with my credit card. Had no other issues...

you will see that people that got USCIS I485 receipts, are those whose forms reached USCIS on Jun 25th. That would mean that as of last week USCIS was entering in the cases that came in in the end of Jun. They are not doing July filers yet....
My best bet is that they will begin doing July filers in the middle of next week (7/25) or even later and we will start seeing checks cleared by that date....

Please share if you have any progress on your SR or receiving the receipts. I am trying to call USCIS to check the status on the SR, but could not reach them. Now they have a dummy menu system, which keeps on looping when you select the option for receipts not received.

My question is if I can apply for a new H1-B thru a new company in the US now, instead of a transfer? I have a valid reason for doing that. Do let me know.

When all these news channels can cover illegal immigrations, why cant they have some space for legal immigration. We are legal immigrants, shouldnt be afraid of anything. We pay a lot of taxes and we dont diserve this 3rd rated treatment. So go call every major news channel in your local area and request them to cover this news. I called Fox10, ABS15 & AZ Republic in Phoenix area. Spread this news and create awareness and we should be able to get justice.
