gkarrisApr 4, 12:13 PM1) It's an early upgrade. Do you really need to upgrade your phone sooner than every 18 months? If you do, that is your decision as a consumer. You certainly have no God given right to a cheap upgrade though. Stop whining.
Well, Apple upgrades every year... ;)

KieranicDec 6, 04:21 AMConsidering Christmas is just under 3 weeks away, I decided to switch to a Christmas wallpaper (will keep this for the rest of 2010) :)
I found this wallpaper about a year ago and it originally had the words "A South Park Christmas" at the bottom (which I digitally removed in iPhoto). It's amazing how fast 2010 has gone but then again, everyone says that every year :D

Seriously.
For those having a hissy fit and saying this is going to make them go to Verizon, how does that help you? Verizon doesn't give you any early upgrade price so with them you just end up paying full price (Which is more expensive than the subsidy AT&T is giving for one year upgrades).
I fail to see the logic here on why Verizon is better than AT&T in this regard? Because AT&T got more expensive (but still has a better option than Verizon)? So you'll go and pay more at Verizon that doesn't even offer an early upgrade because AT&T got a little more expensive? Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
I'll be the sensible consumer and go with who gives me the better deal, regardless if one of them increased their prices. IF they still have the better deal, I might be upset it's not as good as a deal as before, but I'm still going to pick it. I'll save my spiteful boycotting for when they actually try to scam me or do something it is worth paying more for (no one see the irony in paying more somewhere else cause the place you're ticked off at increased prices but still is cheaper?).

sundoggyOct 8, 04:23 PMagree.
it crashes regularly, even on macrumors or on the apple site!
just make it work!
One thing Safari doesn't do is crash on its own. I am macrumors and the apple site all the time, and get no crashes. The problems I have had with Safari--slow downs mostly--have been the result of other system problems. I didn't realize this until the whole system came down due to a hard drive failure and I had to restore all my directories to the new HD. Since then, Safari has been speedier than ever, and some of the other Safari-specific annoyances (like cached site icons slowing it down) have stopped completely. I also find that it renders almost everything properly. However, I do use Flock, which is really Firefox 1.5, and it seems a bit quicker (faster than Firefox actually--not sure why, but maybe because Fox is loaded with too many plugins).
ABOUT SAFT: Saft is a way cool addition to Safari, and I don't think Apple is planning to add everything in Saft to v3. I highly recommend this cheap add on. BUT, NOTE, it is not free, and it has a pain in the butt upgrade procedure, which you have to do everytime there is an OS upgrade, because Safari releases are tied to OS releases (unless you download the webkit builds, which BTW, will pick up anything you have added to Safari).

akrocker29Mar 6, 01:59 AMHi, I have unsuccessfully searched the internet for the past 3 hours trying to find a way to jailbreak my ipod in order to play NES games. Help please? I have a PC, if that makes a difference.
Also, does jailbreaking lower the battery life.

Lord BlackadderMar 16, 12:07 AMThere's just no reason for some people to be alive after what they've done.
There is one - I see no reason that we should kill them.
I'm perfectly satisfied with locking criminals away for the rest of their natural lives for the mot heinous crimes. I don't see a compelling reason for us citizens to kill criminals through the state. That isn't justice. That is revenge, or blood lust. It's barbaric.

SPUY767Oct 2, 07:11 AMWell said. Maybe its time freeware communities such as OpenOffice make a HUGE push of functionality, portability, efficiency, and ability to work with Active Directory & Such to challenge MS.
I've talked to an Opensource Guru, and he says that about 30% of AD updates are designed to foil Samba compatibility.

bwrairenMar 26, 09:34 PMi never said he did anything illegal, all i'm saying is how eBay and PayPal are operated, 99% of the time (and i'm not even exaggerating that) they will favour the buyer. that's nothing new. and the buyer has an advantage because it was listed in the wrong category, and the title was wrong. it was false advertising in a sense.
I realize that you didn't question the legality but another poster (that I originally quoted) did. I am aware that the buyer will not be required to pay, and he shouldn't be. I just can't stand people that automatically declare something illegal because they think it is wrong. It seems to be a common practice these days.

jswNov 20, 02:20 PMBut lately I've been thinking about this and what if Apple bucked the system a little. They made a phone which connected directly to your computer and you downloaded the correct carrier setting to. So if you used Verizon, all you had to do is in setup select Verizon or Sprint....Many manufacturers already do this with their unlocked phones - but they just store the settings on the phones (no need to connect to a computer).
Would the carriers care that a generic iPhone ran on their network, maybe the stupid ones, but in the long they're lives would be easier, because they wouldn't have to market the phones, just their service (which is where they really make their money).Manufacturers selling unlocked phones is common elsewhere and is now already beginning in the States.
I also like the idea of using the click wheel to make a retro style digital-rotary phone. However, I doubt Apple would just display the numbers on the screen and not on the unit. So when in dial mode, you would spin the click wheel and the numbers, displayed on the display in a circle, would highlight the number that you were on and then click the center button on the click wheel to select. This won't fly - usage is terrible and would make dialing slower than it currently is. And texting would truly suck.
hayeskMay 2, 02:22 PMHow do you open localized strings?
Using qlmanage -p or vim, you can see the contents, but they look compiled.
But anyway to view the files properly?
They are binary plists. Anything that can open a binary plist can read the file, as is shown in the screen shot, OmniOutliner.
samiwasMar 3, 08:50 AMIt's amazing just how few (3 so far that I can count) SERIOUS and thoughtful replies to this thread there have been. It almost seems that without personal attacks or social distress we have nothing to talk about... even when faced with the amazingly detrimental economic situation described in the OP. Truly fascinating. Seems more true to me than ever that most on the left either A) fail to recognize the depth and seriousness of the problem at hand, B) don't care or aren't willing to make the necessary cuts to maintain economic sanity, C) are too busy playing petty politics (the blame game) worrying about who caused the problem instead of who's going to fix it. It seems that unless the threads directly pit right vs. left, no one cares enough to engage intellectually and make progress towards a solution. Anyway, thanks to the posters above who actually contributed... I may not agree with your suggestions, but at least your in the arena.
And in the 14,298 other threads in which people have brought up OTHER solutions to reduce deficit/debt, you pull the same crap. So don't start with that. You are one of the biggest pots in a sea of black kettles.
Unless the solution is cutting SS, Medicare, or Medicaid, or any myriad of programs that actually help people, you and your ilk want nothing of it. You want more cut taxes for wealthy and less tax and regulation on business. Period. To you, that is the ONLY way to move forward.
It's understandable that rich people don't want programs that help people, because they themselves don't need help. Hopefully, you don't plan on needing Social Security or Medicare/Medicaid when you are older, and i'm sure your parents are good without it either. If they need assistance, you will cover them, I'm sure.
HarryPotMay 5, 09:30 PMFine way to shoot a big hole in your credibility. Learn a little about the lead up to the war before making uninformed assertions like this.
Care to give me some information? Wasn't Japan an ally to Germany? Didn't they attacked in Pearl Harbor?
slbOct 5, 05:53 PMThis is my first post. It takes a lot for me to stop being a lurker, but the idea that any user can resize a textarea on a site I design, dynamically redrawing the page, is among the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. This will break valid page layouts in new and unheard of ways. Designers make form elements a size and shape for a reason.
I look forward to finding a way using JavaScript to disable that feature the day that browser is released.
On the contrary, resizeable textareas are part of the CSS3 standard; Safari 3.0 will simply be the first mainstream browser to implement it. Once you try it, I promise you will not want to go back. It's really a non-issue, and I'm surprised anybody's complaining about it to the point they would disable this end-user feature using JavaScript. I'll just disable JavaScript on your site, then, buddy.
