eternlgladiatorMay 6, 10:14 PMAs of right now my Time Capsule is sitting on my desk in my office. A friend of mine had his house broken into and had everything stolen, it made me start thinking about protecting my data. I am thinking about running cable and power to my closet and putting my Time Capsule in there. The closet is in the middle of a small house (1600 sq ft ranch), think I will have any signal issues? See any downside to doing this?
Thanks!
Unless your closet is made of bricks I doubt you'll have any problems. Even then it would probably be ok. Either way, you'll know right away.

Description:: How many widget makers can claim a 60-plus-percent attachment rate? Moreover, were just talking about apps and not the burgeoning iPad peripheral market. Still, most blogs and media outlets focussed in on the one-third of iPad owners who dont download apps.

Westside guyFeb 15, 10:40 PMThe hubs and I are shopping around for a wireless router and also looking for one of those printer/copier/fax machines. This is where our trouble begins because we can't seem to find things that are compatible with both of our computers. His computer runs FreeBSD. We are networked through a regular router and our computers can talk to each other freely. Finding a wireless router that would work for both computers seems to be a bit of a problem. Has anyone been successful in setting up a wireless networking system and if so please share your tips. :)
Also this little situation is also making it hard to find a printer with wireless capabilities that works with both computers. Any suggestions on a printer would be wonderful as well! Thanks so much. :)
Well, I don't think the router should be the problem, as long as it supports 802.11b. The problem with FreeBSD or Linux is generally support for the wireless client cards - that's going to have to be 802.11b, and then only particular chipsets. A good place to check for that is the pcmcia-cs project (http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net/), which is what most mature Linux distros (and I'd guess *BSDs as well) use for their wireless management.
As far as printers go, check on the CUPS website (http://www.cups.org/) (Common Unix Printing System) to see what's well supported using Internet Protocol Printing. I don't know what printing system is native to FreeBSD (lpr or whatever), but he can almost certainly install CUPS. That way you'll both be using the same basic printing management system.
Edit: I missed the fact that you're looking at those multi devices. You got me there. I haven't seen any of those that do any one of the functions very well, but I know some people like the concept.

clearlynutsJan 27, 11:52 AMI'm buying my first Mac, and I'd like to save a few bucks on the display. I've read good things about the Dell 2005FPW, for example, which can be had for under $600 depending on which specials they're running that week/day/hour.
Is the 20" Cinema Display that much ($400) better? They're both 20" wide aspect. Are there other displays I should look at? The widescreen part isn't the deciding factor, but I use it as a point of reference vs. the Apple display.

mistergreen2011Apr 9, 07:36 PMThanks. Making the 'pickerview' variable not local to the function worked.
I'm now curious about the 'tag' instance property. How is it used?
I tried googling and read it in the document. I haven't seen an application of it.

AdrianKMay 2, 08:51 AMWell, I've narrowed down the issue a bit. It appears that PNGs can't be normalised from 3.2 onwards (3.1.3 is fine), *unless* they're quite small (<~300*300) It looks like there isn't an updated method out anywhere, shame :(

Moof1904Mar 29, 05:10 PMThat's a tough call and a personal decision involving the trade off between power and portability.
Which would bother you more:
-not having a computer with you during the occasional times you travel, or
-not having the power of the iMac the majority of the time, when you're at home?
Personally, I think sacrificing the power of the iMac just so I had a laptop for the infrequent times I travel would bother me more. I prefer to purchase the type of computer that I need the majority of the time.
Of course, this is only valid if the difference in power between the MBP and the iMac you're considering is significant enough to notice.

WinterMuteSep 26, 03:11 AMDon't know what Klefs are, but if they are standard unpowered speakers (i.e. they have no amps built in) then you're unlikely to get much joy out of that connection.
You'll need to connect the output of the iBook to an amp and the amp to the speakers, the iBooks output is designed to drive headphones or be amplified.
You did mean output in the title didn't you, not input? You'll get a lovely version of silence connecting them to the input, soothing but a bit dull after a while. ;) :D
I've changed it over.

EcodiskDec 6, 05:43 PMHow does a 500mhz G4 compare to a 1ghz G3 performance wise? When I was looking here (http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/G3CARDS/G3_1.1GHz_vs_G4_1GHz_review/index.html) I noticed they cost about the same.

OldSchoolMacGuyMay 2, 03:26 PMWhile there is a chance that the file has been overwritten, the OS itself takes up only a small portion of the drive. If the file was elsewhere than where the install and temp files since then were, you may be able to use data recovery software to get it back. Try something like FileSalvage to get the deleted file back. (http://www.subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1) You can use the demo to see if the file(s) can be recovered before you buy so if you find the file(s) are gone, you aren't out any money. Good luck. In the future as others have said, always make sure you backup before clean installing the OS. It's a painful lesson to learn.

bigus7674Feb 18, 07:50 AMI personally use the Spyder2 Pro (version 3 is current version) which calibrates the monitor as well as printers through printing of IT-8 color charts that you then measure with the included colorimeter.
That package cost me around $500 (currently goes for $539 - http://spyder.datacolor.com/product-pp-s3studiosr.php), but if you need just monitor calibration, that goes for $169 (http://spyder.datacolor.com/product-mc-s3pro.php).
Pantone Huey Pro is also another monitor calibrator that seems to have gotten relatively good reviews and is around $100 (http://www.pantone.com/pages/products/product.aspx?pid=562&ca=2).
There's also X-Rite Eye-One (http://www.pantone.com/pages/products/product.aspx?pid=108&ca=2) and is on sale for $199 right now.

shardeyApr 22, 03:40 PMFalse alarm. It goes away after a few minutes :o So I guess it's not exactly burned-in after all. Just lingers around for a bit like a bad fart.
Wonder what's causing it? Slow refresh or something? It's consistent and replicable too.
If I'm typing a message for a minute and then switch over to the snapshot/eBay page with the gray background, I still see the keyboard outline and anything else that was white.
Slow refresh? Most lcd screen's have a refresh rate of at least 60 hz (60 times a second). In no way is that related to your problem. However, I would take it in the get it looked at if the problem still persists. It sounds like a defective lcd.
heesey1010Apr 26, 01:14 PMA little bit of a weird case here...helping out a friend of mine who has a 2.4 gHz White MacBook, 2GB RAM with latest 10.5 updates. She noticed that her iCal was acting sort of wonky, so I told her to go do some system updates. Upon updating, everything seemed fine...except iCal was still acting up again. Some days later, she was working on something when all of a sudden the screen went black and her sleep indicator light went on, but the computer wouldn't respond to any commands so she turned it off (pressed down power button until it turned off). When she turned it back on, the Apple gray screen came up with the progress indicator swirling, but for forever. I did the normal things such as reset PRAM, SMC, all that fun stuff, and nothing worked. I went in to Verbose Mode and found that it would just hang after saying something about loading the ethernet adapter (can't remember the line...something like "Apple Yukon yadda yadda", but I knew it was the Ethernet adapter for sure). I thought it had hung there...until I did it again and accidentally unplugged the computer and then a new line came up saying how the power state was different.
blackburnApr 28, 03:49 AMIt's a common issue, just do a search here. It happened to me and apple replaced it for free. About your warranty you could still try since it's a common defect.

chucknorrisSep 26, 02:51 AMto get a nano? i got a free 4gb silver mini when i bought my powrbook with the student union deal and i love how the silver of the mini and powerbook match but i dont know if i should sell it or not. i love both.
Well....
I'm not sure if anyone will be able to make such a subjective decision for you.
Personally, I don't think the Mini and the PowerBook match well enough to get hung up on.
The Nanos are incredibly sexy, but if you want more than 2/4 gigs with you at a time they're not really an option.
Is it plausible to get the Nano once your rebate check comes?
